Mark Zuckerberg Is Welcoming His Third Child

There seems to be a baby boom among billionaires at the moment. The first is Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s sudden announcement of secret twins. It’s now Mark Zuckerberg’s turn to bask in the glow of motherhood.

On Wednesday, Zuckerberg announced that he and his wife Priscilla Chan are expecting their third child. “Lots of love,” Zuckerberg wrote on Instagram. “Max and August are getting a new baby sister next year! ”

Max and August, the couple’s daughters born in 2015 and 2017, respectively, have already been born. In 2003, Chan and Zuckerberg met at a frat party at Harvard and were married a decade later.

In Chan and Zuckerberg’s relationship, Facebook, which changed its name last year to Meta, has always been a third wheel. Facebook’s initial public offering was just one day after the couple married in 2012. According to the Wall Street Journal, Chan made Zuckerberg take her on one date per week and spent at least 100 minutes with her outside of the office.

In the days following Maxima’s birth, Zuckerberg and Chan wrote her an open letter and posted it on Facebook. The letter announced the creation of the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative to eradicate disease and improve education through philanthropy and technology. According to the parents, 99% of their Facebook shares, or about $45 billion at that time, would be dedicated to this initiative. As a result of Facebook’s 60% decline in stock value this year, the shares are worth considerably less now.

When their daughter August was born, the couple continued the letter tradition. Zuckerberg and Chan’s letter to August seemed less serious than their first letter to Max, which was long and serious.

Despite headlines focusing on negative trends, we believe these positive trends will prevail. It was their hope that she would succeed in the future that they wrote to her.

While Max and August live fairy tale lives in comparison to the rest of us non-billionaires, Zuckerberg admitted to CBS in 2019 that he and Chan don’t buy their daughters everything and they have chores. The video of the teeny girls washing dishes and loading the dishwasher was well documented on Facebook that year.

You are a Chan-Zuckerberg baby, but we bet we know at least this much about you: Your parents will also write you a letter, and there will also be chores. Best of luck.
