The Barbie transformation of Madelaine Petsch

In Dreamhouse, Madelaine Petsch has bleach-blond hair that screams Barbara Millicent Roberts. On Sept. 15, the “Riverdale” star dove headfirst into the Barbiecore trend by revamping everything from her wardrobe to her hairstyle. “Life in plastic isn’t all it’s cracked up to be,” Petsch joked on Instagram with photos of her decidedly blasé Barbie persona. Even though Petsch has given her signature red waves a blond hair makeover before, her new doll-inspired style transforms her into a life-size replica of the fashionista-astronaut-CEO.

Hairstylist and wig maker Zachary Morad styles Petsch’s blond wig against multiple shades of pink at Dream Home Studios. “Whenever @marcmena called and told me he was making @Madelame into a life size version and needed a wig, I screamed,” Morad captioned an Instagram post. Additionally, hairstylist Marc Mena, makeup artist Jen Tioseco, and wardrobe stylist Rob Zangardi and Mariel Haenn were part of Petsch’s glam squad.

During her time on television, Petsch’s hair has changed a lot. The color of her hair caused her a lot of trouble as a child, and she was made fun of for it a lot. In order not to draw attention to myself, I slicked my hair into a bun every day with gel.” Now, it’s her trademark, but the glossy red waves can still be unpredictable. “I have very particular hair. If you think it will zig, it will zag, and it never does exactly what we want,” she said. With my hair, I’ve learned to go with the flow.”

Between filming episodes of “Riverdale” and scenes for her new movie, “Jane,” which she stars in alongside Chlöe, maintaining healthy hair is a top priority for Petsch. In her spare time, she keeps her hair up and doesn’t put heat on it to keep it extra healthy. She does a hair mask once a week and gets a haircut every six weeks.

Since she has been in charge of Cheryl Blossom’s makeup for five years, she has created a teenage icon. Petsch said some of her favorite shooting memories are in the glam trailer, whether she’s applying Cheryl’s blood-red lipstick or experimenting with eyeshadow with Lili Reinhart and Camila Mendes. Prior to the 2023 premiere of the final season, she said, “The glam trailer has always been one of my favorite parts of the day when we are shooting.” “We would all sit on the floor laughing so hard while trying to do straight eyeliner or just talking about life together. I’ll miss those moments.”
