The match between Qatar and Ecuador at the FIFA World Cup 2022 will take place on November 20. At 40 kilometres north of Doha, the 60,000-seat Al Bayt Stadium hosts the opening Group A match at 9:30 PM (India time).
The Court of Arbitration for Sport recognized Byron Castillo as an Ecuadorian national, but he was not selected for the 26-man Ecuadorian World Cup squad. Castillo’s claim that he was ineligible to compete in FIFA World Cup qualifiers was rejected by the CAS earlier this month.
Among the 32 participants, Qatar – the hosts and only debutant – has invested 12 years in preparing for the FIFA World Cup 2022. Qatar achieved a historical milestone in 2019 by winning the Asian Cup under Felix Sanchez Bas. Qatari players have claimed that taking the lead and competing at the same time is “suicide” for the team. In transitions, they would aim for compact defense, few opportunities given up, and appear powerful.
